Today’s analysis focuses on Labor Day Weekend shooting trends in most cities with over 400,000 residents.1 In 2025, 15 cities saw more shootings than in 2024, with 12 also exceeding their 2014-2019 averages. Comparing 2025 to pre-2020 levels, rather than just 2024, better gauges progress against gun violence, as post-2020 spikes skew recent trends. Cities should aim to return to pre-pandemic levels and keep pushing lower.
